Workshop days include November 19, 20 and 21, 2009. An opportunity for districts to gather early data for each student in fourth, eighth, and eleventh grades is offered again this fall at ESU 10. Each student paper is assessed separately for each trait by two trained writing teachers resulting in a minimum of 12 individual evaluations per paper.

Analytical scoring is designed to provide teachers, students, parents, and districts with disaggregated information regarding strengths and areas for improvement in each trait for the individual student and aggregated by class. Data will assist with instructional focus and student practice before the Statewide Writing Assessment in February. In past years, according to the participants, the professional conversations during analytical scoring have been valuable for planning instruction when they return to their classrooms.

Administrators or teachers will need to request instructions and writing prompts for the participating grade level(s). Only districts that send one evaluator per 35 student papers per grade level will be eligible for this analytical scoring opportunity.

Student writing samples will be due at ESU 10 by Wednesday, November 11, 2009.

NEW MEDIA ROUTE DAYS

Our media routes, which started on August 18th, will now run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday!  Many schools have new route delivery days to reflect this change.  A new schedule should have been delivered to your school on the first day of routes.  Watch for Michael, our route courier, to arrive at your school on your new day.

FREE Media Services:

In-services for the ODIE Library online catalog and Power Media Plus are now available.  You can access these free services in several ways:
  • set up an in-service held at your school
  • conduct an in-service at ESU 10
  • in-services can be held via distance learning
  • one-to-one training over the phone
Choose the method that works best for you and your schools. Call Susan Sandoval to set up a day and time. (308-237-2280)

Lamination Order Forms: Please be sure to fill out the order form before sending in your material to be laminated, and always use the large blue bag that is provided free to your school.  If you do not have a bag, ask ESU 10's route courier, Michael Miller for one. You can contact Susan Sandoval at ssandova@esu10.org or 308-237-2280 with any questions.

ODIE Account: An ODIE account is required to place an order through the library online catalog. Go to https://odie.esu10.org
To access Power Media Plus through ODIE, an additional account needs to be created by your Library Media Specialist or Susan Sandoval (308-237-2280). They can set that up for you.

HOW DO I EXTEND USE OF MY MATERIAL?

Logon in ODIE and go to the Library link.  On the left (pink) side open "My Reservations".
Find the title that you would like to extend for 1 additional week by clicking on the blue "EXTEND" button. A message will be generated and sent to ESU 10 Media Center.  Your extension will be accepted or denied.  If it is denied, a message will be sent to you stating the item could not be extended. Your request needs to be sent before the day your item is due.

North Central Association (NCA) Accreditation Standards have changed! Come to ESU 10 on September 14, and October 12, 2009 to share and learn from other schools.

These two days will be spent exploring the new standards and examining appropriate evidence for a Quality Assurance Review - a new requirement for accreditation.

Many schools use this time as an opportunity to begin completing the Standards Assessment Report (SAR) which is due 6 weeks to 6 months ahead of the external team visitation. The future is around the corner. Prepare for it now.
